Wage Garnishments in Wyoming May Soon Be Cap

CHEYENNE, Wyo. State senators will debate a bill next week allowing debt collectors to garnish only 25 percent of wages paid through direct deposit.

Currently, they can take it all.

However, if you're paid via check, they can only take 25 percent.

This bill would even garnishment limits out, regardless of how you get paid.

"It's important if you go to work and earn your pay, you should at least be able to buy groceries and pay your rent. The 25 percent garnishment still bites pretty hard. That's still very difficult but most people do live paycheck to paycheck." Said Representative Clark Stith of Sweetwater County.

Stith also said this bill should lead to fewer bankruptcy claims.
