Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

One in nine men are diagnosed with prostate cancer during their lifetime, and one in 41 die because of it. A little less than three million men in the United States previously diagnosed with prostate cancer are alive today, and some survivors are closer than we realize. One of the best tests to determine prostate cancer is the prostate specific antigen test. Health professionals say it is effective in determining cancer, but multiple tests are needed to cross reference.
According to the American Cancer Society, 90% of all localized prostate cancer patients receive surgery, radiation, or drug therapy despite the high risk of treatment related complications. There is also a concern that detecting prostate cancer leads to over treatment.
