CASPER, Wyo. Casper police responded to a shooting reported in Wyoming Medical Center's emergency department around 1 am Monday.
"Our officers discovered the emergency department was secure and the shooter had not gained entry into the emergency department. Through direct coordination with hospital staff and hospital security, our officers were directed towards the radiology department." Said Cheif McPheeters of the Casper Police Department in a press conference.
Police did not find suspected shooter Mitchell Taylor in radiology.
They eventually found him in the hospital's physical plant.
"The shooter was unaware of the approaching officers and although taken by surprise, was not compliant with our officer's verbal instructions. Due to the hazards of the ongoing shooting incident, our officers used an electronic control device- or taser- to take the subject into custody at 1:26 this morning." Explained McPheeters.
McPheeters says hospital security was vital to police efforts.
"The Wyoming medical center security staff were instrumental in these efforts by relaying information from security footage to the officers who were conducting the search."
McPheeters says police do not know Taylor's motive.
McPheeters says prosecutors will charge Taylor with four felonies.
Two counts of aggravated assault and one count of the use of a firearm while committing a felony and felony property damage.
He is being held at the Natrona County detention center.
