CASPER, Wyo. Negative effects can include looking at posts about suicide, depression, and other mental health disorders.
Positive effects include finding support groups and using it to communicate with others.
But counselors say there haven't been enough studies to figure out if one aspect outweighs the other.
They say the effects depend on what we measure.
"We all need a support system, whether that system lives with us or we have connections with that positive support system, it's just people being aware of who you're talking to on social media with. Said Wiliam Howell of Central Wyoming Counseling Center.
Counselors say we should always be aware of what we're doing and where we're going online.
