Casper Police release video of officer involved shooting

Today, Casper Police release video of an officer involved shooting that took place on July 10.

The video shows officers chasing 21 year old William McCollum after he threatened people with a gun.

The chase began at 5:45 a.m., but officers lost sight of McCollum after he got off the interstate.

Just after 6:30 a.m., Officer Craig Burns receives a report that McCollum's vehicle was spotted at the Loaf N' Jug at CY Avenue and Kit Carson Avenue.

Just after Officer Burns leaves his vehicle, he spots McCollum and shots are fired.

McCollum was declared dead at the scene.

Chief Keith McPheeters said mental health issues may have played a role in the incident.

"It is not my intent to disparage mister McCollum, but it is my belief that mental health, as is often the case and has reared its head here in our community recently, that mental health does play a role in this incident," McPheeters said.

Officer Burns remains on restricted duty while Casper Police continue their investigation.
