CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- Wyoming is switching from a 3-4 defense to a 4-3 defense this spring.
UW began making the transition to its new defense Saturday during the first of 15 spring practices.
Wyoming has used a 3-4 defense since 2005.
Second-year UW coach Dave Christensen says the main goal of the switch is to cut down on surrendering big plays.
Last season, despite a 7-6 record and a New Mexico Bowl victory, UW gave up 29 plays of 25 yards or more. Nine of them went for touchdowns.
Juniors Josh Biezuns and Gabe Knapton both will convert to down linemen from linebacker.
