Today kicked off the official start up of the Chevron Wind Farm in Evansville.

The former fossil fuel refinery turned green through renewable wind energy was officially put into commission. The eleven enormous 1.5 mega watt turbines will generate power to an estimated 4,400 homes in Natrona County. The project began in June and took over 115,000 hours to complete.

"We like the story that we took an old fossil fuel refinery and turned it into a newer renewable energy producing site," says Chevron Operations Manager Chris Buchholz.

This is the company's first wholly owned commercial wind farm. The property was the previous site of the Texaco Refinery which operated for almost sixty years.
