Ft. Collins Man Charged With Attempted First-Degree Murder

A Ft. Collins man facing attempted murder charges in Goshen County has bond set at half-a-million dollars.

William Schlager Jr appeared before a Torrington judge in a wheelchair.

52-year-old Schlager is accused of shooting Timothy Toedter during an attempted robbery at The Emporium restaurant in Hawk Springs on April 26th.

Police say Schlager fled the scene, leaving Toedter paralyzed.

Schlager was heading southbound on Highway 85 when Wyoming Highway Patrol laid down spike strips north of Cheyenne in an attempt to catch him. Authorities say Schlager engaged in a shootout with troopers and was injured during the gunfire exchange.

On Friday, Schlager appeared in front of a judge in a wheelchair, facing five felony charges including attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery, aggravated assault and battery and weapons charges.

Goshen County Attorney Patrick Korell says a history of DUI and assault & battery charges made him a flight risk and a danger to the community.

No troopers were injured during the incident. A future court date has not been set at this time.
