Central Wyoming College Board of Trustees announced their selection to replace President Dr. Jo Anne McFarland.

Dr. Cristobal “Cris” Valdez is the selected as the final candidate.

“I think as far as attributes and qualities a president should have, he should be able to be personable and charismatic enough to go and meet with students, find out what they want and what their needs are, and kind of conform the college to the needs,” said student body president Rory Ashdown.

Valdez comes to Riverton from Edison Community College in Ohio, where he is president. He holds a PhD in community college leadership. His wife and four children will join the community August 1st. He listened via conference call, thanked everyone and said he was extremely thrilled and would not let the community down. Other finalists were Dr. Paul Kraft and CWC’s Dr. Jason Wood.

“If we had picked anyone of the three we would be fine,” said CWC College Board of Trustees Chairman Charlie Krebs. “I mean we felt that good about them.“

Krebs said the final quality which stood out was Valdez’s experience. Krebs said he was the only existing president. The other candidates served as vice president and executive vice president.
