Wyoming Highway deaths have averaged just over 100 per year the past five years, this according to WYDOT safety program officials.
Many accidents are caused by inattention while driving and drivers distracted by their phones.
A decline in deaths since 2014 may seem progressive; however officials said anything above zero is still too many.
Pete Abrams from WYDOT’s Safety Program said, "We talk about data, we talk about statistics, we talk about trends. But the reality of it is, it all starts with the individual. So what does the individual do? Do they wear their seat belt? Do they not drink and drive?"
According to Abrams, as of Tuesday, the total number of deaths due to car crashes has exceeded last years, with the year-to-date total being 113.
Last year's number was 112.
