Wyo Groups Encourage Lawmakers to Consider Suicide Prevention Funding Efforts

Lobbyists gathered in the Jonah Business Center on March first, trying to encourage lawmakers to fund suicide prevention initiatives in Wyoming.

Wyoming ranks among the highest in the nation for suicide rates according to suicide prevention advocates.

Lawmakers consider funding for suicide prevention efforts in our state.

Both chambers look to fund it with $2 million dollars, but representatives seek to take it from the state’s general fund and senators out of the health department’s budget.

“It’s dire need, it’s literally life and death that we need this funding in order to have prevention programs, education, mental health access different things like the crisis call center. It’s very important for our state to have this,” said Rhianna Brand, Grace For 2 Brothers

Brand says last year's funds were cut completely for suicide prevention leaving a lack of money for their efforts.
