Studies show students who regularly attend school achieve at higher levels than those who don't.
This is one reason Natrona County School District officials changed their attendance policy last year.
School district officials say significant changes weren't made to the attendance policy, but more-so toward its clarification.
They say attendance was one of the biggest things they were fighting in past school years, as previous policies left too much room for interpretation.
Clarity and consistency was the goal for their latest policy, hoping to minimize discrepancy by making the policy more detailed, even defining words used within the policy.
"They've got to realize that attendance is one of the most important parts of being in school and learning what they need to learn," said Dana Howie.
School district officials hope parents continue to maintain communication with schools when children are absent during the school year.
