FREMONT COUNTY, Wyo. (KCWY)- Farm to plate is making a big impact in children's lives this summer, through gardening.
Chair members held a celebration in Lander last week to introduce the kid friendly garden to parents and the community.
The Lights On program now offers gardening and cooking classes for kids in their after school program.
Kids have the option to take one of the classes and attend field trips to local farms.
Those who join the program will get to participate in caring for the community garden alongside experts.
Chair members say the garden is strictly for educational purposes and as kids learn about growing their own foods, they will be able to take home a garden of their own.
Kristin Vogel, Chair member of Wind River Farm to Plate shared, “We had a gardener come in and teach us about propagating strawberries.
All the kids are going to be taking home a strawberry plant and they will know how to care for them if they choose to have a garden of their own.”
This garden is the first of more to come in the Fremont County School District.
