Kelly Walsh High School held a “Sunset Open House Celebration” Friday evening. Administrators organized the event to provide students, staff, and alumni a chance to walk the old campus and reminisce.
All the old buildings except the pool and auditorium will be torn down starting next week. Attendees could buy a brick from the old building to support a fundraiser for a new Trojan statue. The statue will be sculpted by an artist from Lander, and the public will be able to buy bricks throughout the summer by contacting the school.
Besides the opportunity to share old memories, the event organizers also opened up the new Kelly Walsh facilities, which the school will occupy starting this summer.
Longtime teacher Duane Reimer said that the open and equal layout of the new facility reflects the school’s mantra: “Everybody Counts.”
