RIVERTON, Wyo. (KCWY) - Central Wyoming College will be offering cosmetology classes this fall, the program will offer benefits not offered before.
News 13’s Raven Ford spoke with Brad Tyndall at CWC who shared,
“Were excited to be starting cosmetology because it’s a new niche not only for the college but for the community.”
Brad said it’s hard for colleges to add new programs but it’s great for those who didn't find interest in programs offered before.
“If you don’t want to be a nurse, or a welder, an auto mechanic and a few other things you're saying what’s for me? What can I do? When you find something like cosmetology, your saying ‘yes we got a substantially new useful productive niche’ where there’s jobs it’s great."
The program will allow students to earn a certificate or a 2 year degree with additional course requirements.
CWC Instructor Lynn Mcauliffe shared, “We've also added an applied mat so that students will have to learn math skills that are very applicable in cosmetology. We want them to mix colors right and things like that.”
As well as a business course.
“If they're in the full cosmetology program they’ll be taking a small business practices class as well. Most cosmetologists either rent space in an existing salon or own their own business so having those business skills is something that we think is really important as well. The college will now offer financial aid and housing for students enrolling in the program, benefits other cosmetology classes didn't have before.
Students can earn a certificate in as little as one semester and an associate’s degree within two years.
