Fremont County Deputies Advise People of the Dangers of Social Media Vigilance

Car thefts are on the rise in Fremont County and car owners are taking matters into their own hands in Riverton.

Several cars have been stolen between the hours of 1:00 am -7:00 pm within the last week.

No suspects have been found in any of the cases, but people who had their vehicle stolen took to Facebook for help to find the car thieves.

Police officials said using social media if your vehicle is stolen is not a good idea.

Fremont County Sheriff Randy Lee shared, “You never know who may be in possession of your vehicle. People have to propensity to be very violent so we do recommend that if you find yourself a victim of crime that you notify the proper authority and not take matter into your own hands."

Locking your car doors and removing keys from vehicle while unattended will lower the risk of being a target of vehicle theft.
