54 Buffalo Roam Out of Protected Area; Criminal Investigation Launched

Reports say more 54 Yellowstone National Park buffalo recently escaped through a cut fence at a containment area near Gardiner, Montana.

The bison were being prepared to be transferred to the fort Peck Tribes.

The cut fence leading to the exit of the bison has spurred a criminal investigation at the Stephens Creek facility near Gardiner and reports say it appears that someone cut the fence with bolt cutters.

The bison had been in containment for nearly two years to assure they were free of brucellosis.

Interior secretary Ryan Zinke called the release, “devastating” and says it's unclear if the bison will need to be quarantined again.
