Sam was born in Pineville, North Carolina and lived in Rock Hill, South Carolina before being raised in Roanoke, Virginia. Graduated Concord University in Athens, West Virginia with a BA in Communications Arts while playing football.
He interned at NBC affiliate WVVA in Bluefield, West Virginia before moving to Wyoming.
